International Justice Mission (IJM)

"10 million children are trapped in slavery."

-Sophia Lee

Here is my story:

I was introduced to IJM as a sophomore at a dinner fundraising function. I didn't know very much about the organization and the term "modern slavery" was confusing to me. I thought slavery ended after the Civil War. I was very shocked that there are more people trapped in slavery more than ever today.

The largest anti-slavery organization in the world

Fighting globally to impact over 40 million (10million children) people trapped in slavery today.

Global organization partnering with local justice systems to end violence against people in poverty by rescuing and restoring victims, bringing criminals to justice and strengthening local justice system.

During the summer months, I was involved with the IJM leadership teams that met with field workers from various countries to discuss the 2021 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report, a 600-page report published annually by the U.S. Dept of State, highlighting the $150 Billion industry. Unfortunately, this report garners very little media attention. I believe that everyone should read this report to realize that the freedom we often take for granted is denied to over 40 million people around the world. I hope that my generation, with our communication infrastructure and our hearts for justice will abolish human trafficking in my lifetime.
